Installation Day, at a Glance

Once you've chosen your system and electrician, there's the install itself — and knowing what to expect makes it calm. The crew reviews the plan, places the generator, mounts and wires the switch, connects the fuel, and tests it all, with a brief planned power interruption while they work at the panel. Then they walk you through operating it, and an inspector signs off. This guide takes you through the day. There's a printable 29-page version up top.

Common Questions

1 How long does installation take?

Commonly a good part of a day or more, depending on your home, the fuel connection, and how far the generator sits from your panel. Your electrician can estimate for your specific home.

2 Will my power be off during the install?

Yes, briefly — a planned interruption while they work at the panel. The crew tells you when and roughly how long, so you can plan around it.

3 Do I need to be home the whole time?

Not the whole time, but do be there for the opening plan review and the closing walk-through, and be reachable in between.

4 Why are there two different workers?

Backup power is two licensed trades — an electrician for the wiring and a gas pro for the fuel connection. Seeing both is a sign the job's being done right.

5 Does it work as soon as they leave?

Usually yes, once tested — though the inspector's sign-off may come on a later day. Your electrician will tell you exactly where things stand.

6 What's the most important part of the day for me?

The walk-through at the end, when the crew explains your system. Give it your full attention, and bring a second set of ears — a family member or me.

Would You Rather I Just Help?

If having someone in your corner on install day would ease your mind, I'm glad to be there — especially for the walk-through, so your new system actually makes sense to you. $99 flat for a visit, 30-day come-back-free.

Would you rather I just do this for you?

No shame in it — plenty of folks would rather hand it off, and that's what I'm here for. I'll come to your home, set it up right, and make sure it's working before I leave. Flat $99 per visit — no jargon, no upsell, and every visit is 30-day come-back-free.

Not a hardware job? I can often fix it remotely for $49 — a secure screen-share, up to 2 hours, that you watch the whole time and can end whenever (included free for $39/mo Support Plan members, and it counts toward the $99 if it turns out I need to come out).
