About these guides
What we check — and when
A plain-English note about how I keep these free guides honest and up to date — and where I can't promise perfection.
I write every one of these guides myself, and I try hard to keep them accurate. But technology changes, apps get redesigned, menus move, and prices go up and down. So rather than quietly pretend a guide is frozen in time, I'd rather just tell you straight how I keep them current — and what the little dates on each guide actually mean.
What “Published” and “Last verified” mean
Near the top of most guides you'll see a small line like “Published August 2026 · Last verified August 2026.” Here's what those two dates mean:
- Published is when I first wrote the guide and put it on the site.
- Last verified is the most recent time I sat down and went back through it — re-reading the steps, checking that screens and settings still look the way I describe, and fixing anything that had drifted. If a guide says it was verified this month, that's a real date, not an automatic stamp.
If a guide hasn't been re-checked in a while, its “Last verified” date will say so honestly. I'd rather show you an older date than fake a fresh one.
How often I review each guide
I can't re-check 1,500-plus guides every week — it's just me. So I review them on a schedule, and I review the ones people lean on most, most often:
- Core guides — the everyday topics I'm actually hired for (phones and tablets, Wi-Fi and internet, computers and printers, TV and streaming, smart home and cameras, online safety and scams, and help aimed at seniors and families) — are the ones I come back to first and check the most often.
- Price- and plan-heavy guides — things like internet plans, streaming subscriptions, cell service and anything where the cost is the whole point — I aim to look at about every six months, because those numbers move the fastest.
- Everything else I aim to review about once a year, and sooner if something big changes or a reader tells me a step is out of date.
That's a goal, not a guarantee — some reviews land a little early, some a little late. The “Last verified” date on each guide is always the real one to trust.
About prices
When a guide mentions a price — for a gadget, a subscription, or an outside service — please treat it as “about right when I last checked,” not a quote. Prices change all the time, and stores and providers set their own. Always confirm the current price with the seller before you buy.
My own prices are the exception: my flat $99 first in-home visit, my $49 remote screen-share session, and the $39/month Support Plan are set by me and kept current on the pricing page. If one ever changes, that page is the one to trust.
Found something out of date?
If a step doesn't match what you're seeing, or a price looks off, I genuinely want to know — it helps me fix it for the next person. Call or text me at (330) 200-8042, or email bill@billshometech.com. No step is too small to mention.
And if you'd rather just hand the whole thing off, that's what I'm here for. These guides are free and always will be — but a real visit is sometimes the faster road.
