Worried about your parent's tech setup? I can help — patiently, in person, with you in the loop.
You're across town or across the country. They're frustrated, they're a target for scams, and they don't want to "bother you about the Wi-Fi." I sit down with them, fix it, and email the whole picture to you.

Bill & his mom Joanne, 90 — Atwater, Ohio
Why I started doing this
I've lived in Atwater for 22 years. My mom Joanne is 90 and lives with us. A few years ago I watched her try to video-call her best friend — and the look on her face when she couldn't figure it out broke my heart. She wasn't slow or confused. The technology just wasn't designed for her.
I spent 30+ years in tech and customer service — RadioShack, Nokia, T-Mobile, AT&T, then USPS. I've seen the bad version of every system your parent owns. Bill's Home Tech is what I started when I retired, because someone needed to actually sit down with people like Mom and fix the thing — patiently, in their own kitchen, in plain English.
I treat every parent I visit the way I'd want someone to treat mine.

Plain English, no jargon
No "SSID" or "DNS" or "two-factor what?" I explain things the way I'd explain them to my mom — because that's where I learned to.

Your Visit Summary
Bill's Home Tech — Tech Made Simple, Service Made Personal
What you asked about
"Mom's internet keeps dropping in the back bedroom, and last week a scary pop-up said her computer was infected and to call a number."
What I did today
- Moved the router off the basement floor up to the living-room shelf — the back bedroom went from one bar to full signal.
- Added a small mesh unit so the back porch and sewing room stay connected too. No drilling, plugs into a normal outlet.
- Set a Wi-Fi name and password Margaret can actually remember, wrote it in the folder I left, and labeled the router.
- Reconnected the smart TV, the printer, the Ring doorbell, and her iPad to the new network.
- Looked at the "your computer is infected" pop-up together — it was a fake web page, nothing was installed. Showed her how to close it safely and why never to call the number.
- Turned on two-step sign-in for her email and Apple ID, and backed her photos up to iCloud.
What I'd keep an eye on
- The router is about 9 years old but working fine now — no need to spend money yet. If the drop-outs come back, a ~$120 replacement would settle it for good. I'll never push hardware you don't need.
- Margaret's iPad was nearly out of storage. I cleared about 6 GB of old app data; if it fills up again, that's the first thing to check.
For your records
4 before-and-after photos saved (router spot + mesh placement) and attached to your email.
Margaret was a pleasure — we had the whole house connected and tested by the time I left, and she felt a lot better about that pop-up. If anything I set up acts up, please don't hesitate to call. I'd rather hear from you than have you worry.

Want ongoing peace of mind? The $39/mo Support Plan
When you're out of town, the hardest part is not knowing. For $39/month I check in with your parent once a month, stay available for unlimited phone & text help between visits, and send you a short “all good” note so you're never left wondering. No contract, cancel anytime — it starts after the $99 first visit so I already know their setup.
📅 Start with a $99 visitWhat I check on the first visit
Even if your parent only called about one thing, I quietly sweep the basics so you have a full picture.
-
📡 Wi-Fi and router health
Is the router 10 years old? Is the password on a sticky note next to it? Is half the house in a dead zone? I check coverage in every room they actually use and tell you straight if a $120 router upgrade would solve 80% of their frustration.
-
🛡️ Scam-defense audit
Pop-ups, "Microsoft" calls, Medicare phishing, gift-card scams. I check what's on the desktop, what's in the browser, and walk your parent through the 5 most common 2026 scams so the next call doesn't catch them off guard. Free with any visit.
-
💾 Device backups + emergency setup
Is the phone backed up? Can you, as the family contact, actually get into things if something happens? I set up iCloud/Google backup, write down the recovery info, and add you as an emergency contact where the device supports it.
