iPhone Duo — A Plain-English Guide

1 What makes the iPhone Duo special?

Here's what's worth knowing, in plain English:

1. It folds — a first for iPhone This is Apple's very first folding iPhone. Shut, it's a normal phone that fits your pocket. Open it and you have a big screen for reading and watching. When open, it's the thinnest iPhone Apple has made.
2. It uses a fingerprint instead of your face Unusually for a modern iPhone, the Duo unlocks with a fingerprint (Touch ID) built into the side button, rather than by looking at it. For some people — especially if Face ID has been fussy for you — a fingerprint is easier and more reliable.
3. Two apps on screen at once On the big inner screen you can show two apps side by side — for instance, a video call on one side and your photos on the other.
4. Built tough for a folding phone A titanium body, strengthened glass, and water resistance. Even so, a folding screen is a bit more delicate than a normal one — more on that below.

2 Is the iPhone Duo right for me?

It's a great fit for a gadget lover who wants the newest, most impressive thing and doesn't mind the highest price — and who would truly use the big folding screen for reading and video.

Consider a different model if: For most people — and especially a first-time or keep-it-simple phone user — this is more phone (and more money) than you need. The regular iPhone 17 or the budget iPhone 17e will serve you beautifully for a fraction of the price.

3 When can I buy it, and how much?

This one is brand-new and NOT on sale yet. Apple announced it on September 9, 2026. Pre-orders begin October 16, and it reaches stores on Friday, October 23, 2026. So as you read this, you can't buy one just yet — this is an early look so you know what's coming.

That's the launch price for the 256GB model. It's the most expensive iPhone by a wide margin, with larger storage sizes costing more. Prices change — check the current price when it's actually on sale.

4 How do I move everything from my old phone?

From another iPhone, Apple's Quick Start does the heavy lifting: turn on the new phone, set it beside the old one, and follow the prompts — your photos, contacts and messages come across. Coming from an Android phone takes a bit more care, and that's one of my most common calls.

5 How do I make it easier to see and hear?

Open Settings > Display & Brightness > Text Size and drag the slider; turn on Bold Text for heavier letters. For much bigger text, use Settings > Accessibility > Larger Text. Turn on captions for videos, and know the phone works with many hearing aids. If a full iPhone feels like too much, Assistive Access switches it to a big-button, large-text layout.

6 How do I stay safe from scams?

Your phone is safe; the tricks come by text, email and call. Apple will never call, text or email to say your account is locked or you owe money — that's always a scam. Never read back a code someone sent you, and never let anyone rush you into gift cards or quick payments. When in doubt, hang up and call someone you trust — including me.
