Safe at Home Setup
The right technology can help someone you love stay in their own home — safely, and with their dignity intact. I set it all up so it actually works, then walk the whole family through it.
A package: two visits · about $249–$349 in labor · devices at plain retail cost
Adults 50 and older now own an average of seven connected devices and spent roughly $95 billion on technology in 2025 (AARP 2026 Tech Trends). Aging in place with a little smart-home help isn't unusual anymore — it's how families are choosing to do it. The trick is having it set up by someone who'll make it simple.
What a Safe at Home Setup includes
We pick the pieces that fit your parent's home and needs — you don't need all of them. Here's the menu:
Video doorbell + smart lock with caregiver codes
See who's at the door from a comfortable chair, and give family or a home aide their own entry code — no hidden key under the mat, and you can see who came and went.
Fall detection
An Apple Watch or a simple medical-alert pendant that can call for help automatically after a hard fall. I set it up and test it with you so everyone trusts it.
Medication & appointment reminders
Alexa or Google speaks reminders out loud at the right times — "time for your morning pills," "Dr. Patel at 2:00 on Thursday" — no phone to unlock or app to open.
An Echo Show that auto-answers for family
Set so approved family can start a video call and it answers on its own — your parent doesn't have to figure out how to pick up. Perfect for a daily "you doing OK?" check.
Leak sensor + smart plug
A little sensor that warns of a water leak under the sink or by the water heater, and a smart plug so a space heater or coffee maker left on can be shut off — from the couch, or automatically.
Phone favorites & Emergency SOS
Big, clear favorites for the people who matter, a filled-in Medical ID, and Emergency SOS set up so a few button presses reach help and notify family with their location.
Hearing help, where it helps
Phone and TV set up for easier hearing — captions, hearing-aid pairing, a louder, clearer ringer — so calls and shows are enjoyable again.
Family walkthrough + emailed report
Included with every setup: I walk the family through how it all works, and email a plain-English report of what's installed and how to use it. Everyone's on the same page.
A note in plain English: fall-detection watches and medical-alert pendants are helpful tools, set up to the manufacturer's instructions — they aren't a guarantee or a substitute for medical care or a professional monitoring service, and I'll always tell you honestly what a device can and can't do.
How the package works
We plan it together
A quick call or first visit to learn the home, the worries, and what's already there. We pick only the pieces that fit.
Two visits to set it up
About $249–$349 in labor for the two visits. Devices are bought at plain retail — you pay the store, not a markup to me.
Walkthrough & report
I show the whole family how everything works and email a plain-English report so nobody's guessing later.
Want it watched over? Add Caregiver Check-In.
Technology only helps if it keeps working. With the Caregiver Check-In add-on to the Support Plan, Bill quietly confirms every month that the doorbell, the fall-detection watch or pendant, and the reminders are all still online — then texts the family a two-line update. No news is good news, and you'll actually hear it.

Grown kids chipping in for Mom or Dad's peace of mind is one of the kindest gifts there is. You can give a Safe at Home Setup as a gift — see gift options →
