iPhone Air — A Plain-English Guide

Here's what's worth knowing, in plain English:

1. The thinnest, lightest iPhone Apple has ever made At about a fifth of an inch thick and very light, the Air is a pleasure to hold and slips into a shirt pocket. If heavier phones tire your hand or wrist, this is the one to feel in person.
2. A big, beautiful screen despite the slim body You still get a large 6.5-inch screen — great for reading — even though the phone itself is so thin.
3. One camera, not several To stay thin, the Air has a single main camera instead of two or three. It takes lovely everyday photos; it just doesn't have the extra zoomed-in or ultra-wide lenses.
4. A titanium frame and a fast chip A strong, light titanium edge and the quick A19 Pro chip inside.

2 Is the iPhone Air right for me?

It's a great fit for someone who finds bigger phones heavy or awkward and wants a large screen in the lightest possible package, and is happy with one (very good) camera.

Consider a different model if: If you want the most cameras or the longest battery, look at the iPhone 17 or a Pro. If you're switching from an old flip phone or physical-SIM phone, note the Air uses a digital SIM only (more below).

3 How much does it cost, and where should I buy it?

Heads up: Apple raised this phone's starting price from $999 to $1,099 in September 2026. That's the current price for the 256GB model. Trade-ins can lower it — check the current price before buying.

The iPhone Air is for people who prize a light, thin phone with a big screen and don't mind a single camera or charging once a day. Hold one in a store — its lightness is the whole point, and it either delights you or it doesn't. If you want more camera or battery for similar money, the iPhone 17 is the more well-rounded pick. Buy from Apple, a carrier, or a trusted store, and ask about trade-in credit.

4 How do I move everything from my old phone?

From another iPhone, Apple's Quick Start does the heavy lifting: turn on the new phone, set it beside the old one, and follow the prompts — your photos, contacts and messages come across. Coming from an Android phone takes a bit more care, and that's one of my most common calls.

5 How do I make it easier to see and hear?

Open Settings > Display & Brightness > Text Size and drag the slider; turn on Bold Text for heavier letters. For much bigger text, use Settings > Accessibility > Larger Text. Turn on captions for videos, and know the phone works with many hearing aids. If a full iPhone feels like too much, Assistive Access switches it to a big-button, large-text layout.

6 How do I stay safe from scams?

Your phone is safe; the tricks come by text, email and call. Apple will never call, text or email to say your account is locked or you owe money — that's always a scam. Never read back a code someone sent you, and never let anyone rush you into gift cards or quick payments. When in doubt, hang up and call someone you trust — including me.
