Published October 2026 · Last verified October 2026
Wish your Android phone pulled at you less? Google built in tools for exactly that — app timers, Focus mode, a gray Bedtime screen. Here they are, step by step. Rather be shown? My number is (330) 200-8042.
Use Your Android Phone Less, On Purpose
Your Android phone already has the tools to be calmer. This guide walks through Digital Wellbeing, app timers, Focus mode, Bedtime mode, and grayscale, with notes for Pixel and Samsung Galaxy phones. Everything is built in, and everything can be undone. There's a printable 29-page version up top.
Common Questions
1 Where do I find Digital Wellbeing?
Open Settings and look for Digital Wellbeing & parental controls. If you can't spot it, type the name into the Settings search box.
2 What does Bedtime mode do?
It fades the screen to grayscale and turns on Do Not Disturb, on a schedule or while the phone is charging.
3 What does Focus mode do?
It pauses the distracting apps you pick until you turn it off, while calls and messages keep working.
4 How do I get grayscale during the day?
Use Settings > Accessibility > Color correction and choose Grayscale. Add a shortcut so you can flip it on and off.
5 Do Samsung Galaxy phones have this?
Yes. Galaxy phones have Digital Wellbeing in Settings, plus an Easy mode for a simpler layout.
6 What are Modes on a Pixel?
Under Settings > Modes, Pixel phones let you bundle quiet settings, including Bedtime, into one tap or a schedule.
