1 Why does food stick to a clean basket?

1. You didn't preheat. Cold basket = sticking. Run the empty unit at cooking temp for 3 minutes before food goes in. (Frozen foods are the exception.)
2. You've been using metal utensils. Tongs, forks, spatulas — if any are metal, you've scratched the coating. Silicone or wood only.
3. Coating is worn out. Nonstick dies after 12–18 months of regular use. Replace just the basket ($20–$40) — see Q5.
4. Sugary or wet batter foods caramelize on. Use parchment paper or a silicone liner.

2 Why is my air fryer smoking?

1. Grease pooled in the bottom. Pause halfway, pull basket out, drain.
2. Splattered grease on the heating element (from a previous greasy cook). Cool, unplug, wipe gently with a damp cloth.
3. Cooking fatty foods: drop a slice of bread OR 2 tablespoons of water in the bottom of the basket BEFORE adding the crisper plate. Soaks up grease, prevents smoke.
4. Sugary marinade is burning. Drop the temp 25°F and use parchment paper.

3 What temperature for [common food]?

1. Frozen french fries: 400°F, 15 min, shake at 8.
2. Chicken wings (1.5 lb): 400°F, 22 min, shake at 10.
3. Salmon fillet: 400°F, 8–10 min, skin-side down, don't flip.
4. Brussels sprouts (halved): 390°F, 12–15 min, cut-side down first.
5. Reheating pizza: 350°F, 3–4 min. (The single best reason to own an air fryer.)

4 How do I clean it without scratching the coating?

1. Clean after EVERY cook, while it's still warm. Five minutes prevents the deep clean.
2. Warm soapy water + soft sponge. No steel wool, no Scotch-Brite, no oven cleaner.
3. For burnt-on bits: baking-soda paste (2 tbsp baking soda + 1 tbsp water), spread on, wait 15 min, wipe.
4. For grease on the heating element (the deep clean): unplug, cool completely, tip unit upside down, gentle toothbrush with baking-soda paste on the coil.
5. NEVER soak overnight. Long water exposure lifts the nonstick coating. 15 minutes maximum.

5 Where do I buy a real replacement basket?

1. The manufacturer's website — ninjakitchen.com, cosori.com, instantpot.com. Type in your model number (sticker on the bottom of the unit).
2. The brand's OFFICIAL Amazon storefront. Click the seller name — should say "sold by Ninja," not "sold by random seller." Avoid third-party "compatible" baskets.
3. Williams-Sonoma, Sur La Table, Target.com, Best Buy — for the brands they carry.
4. If your basket is shot AND the unit is 3+ years old, a new air fryer on sale ($80 a few times a year) might be cheaper than a replacement basket plus shipping.

Air-fryer manufacturers (Ninja, Cosori, Instant Pot) don't cold-call customers about warranties. Your factory warranty came with the purchase. Any extended warranty you paid for was bought at the store or on the manufacturer's website — never over the phone. If they want your credit card on the spot, it's a scam.

Also watch out: counterfeit replacement baskets on Amazon and Temu. Listings with "compatible with Ninja" instead of "Ninja brand" are knockoffs — often with cheaper PFOA-based coating and thinner metal that warps under heat. Stick to the manufacturer's website or their official Amazon storefront.
