Pay-by-Phone Parking, at a Glance

More meters and lots want you to pay by app or phone call instead of coins. The secret is to set up the app at home — add your car and a card — so the curb is just a quick tap. Use only the official app or the number printed on the meter, and never scan a QR sticker. This guide covers paying, extending time, and the scams. There's a printable 29-page version up top.

Common Questions

1 How do I know which app to use?

The city's official parking website, or the signs and meter in person, name the app or phone number. There's no single national app — each place picks its own. Check the official source, not a search ad.

2 Is it safe to scan the QR code on the meter?

Be careful — scammers paste fake QR stickers on meters that lead to bogus pages. Use the app you installed yourself or the number printed into the meter, not a stuck-on code.

3 Can I add time without walking back?

Usually yes — most apps let you extend from your phone and remind you before time runs out. Watch for a posted maximum you can't exceed.

4 What if my phone dies or the app won't load?

Keep a little change for coin meters, and know many meters still take a direct card tap. If the meter's broken and you're ticketed unfairly, contest it through the city's official site.

5 I got a 'parking ticket' text with a link — real?

Almost certainly a scam. Real tickets come on your windshield or by mail. Never pay through a texted link; verify and pay only through the city's official website.

6 Do I have to use an app at all?

No — many meters print a phone number you can call and follow spoken prompts. Just dial only the number printed on the official meter, never one from a sticker.
