One plan covers up to six people — and everyone stays completely private. How to invite family, and exactly what each person can and can't see. Rather have a hand? My number is (330) 200-8042.

Sharing a Family Plan, at a Glance

A Microsoft 365 Family plan covers up to six people for a little more than a single Personal plan — the best value in the lineup. The worry folks have is privacy, and the happy answer is that sharing the plan does not mean sharing an account or your files. Each person gets their own private account, their own installed apps, and their own 1 TB of storage, and nobody can see anyone else's documents. You invite people by email; they accept with their own account. Prices change, so check Microsoft's current figures. This guide walks you through it, and there's a printable 29-page version up top.

Common Questions

1 How many people can share a Family plan?

Up to six people total, including you. Each gets their own account, their own installed apps, and their own 1 TB of storage.

2 Will family members be able to see my documents?

No. Everyone has a separate, private account, so members can't see each other's files. Sharing the plan shares the subscription, not your documents.

3 Do we all share one terabyte of storage?

No — each person gets their own separate 1 TB. It isn't pooled, so one person's photos don't eat into another's space.

4 How do I add someone to my plan?

Sign in at account.microsoft.com, open the Family sharing section, and invite the person by email. They accept with their own Microsoft account and can then install Office and claim their storage.

5 What happens if I remove someone?

Their files stay safe in their own account, but they lose the plan's apps and extra storage (Office drops to read-only, storage shrinks to the free amount). Tell them first so they can plan.

6 Is it cheaper than everyone buying their own?

Almost always, when two or more people need Office. A Family plan costs only a little more than a single Personal plan but covers up to six — check current prices to see the savings.

Would You Rather I Just Help?

Setting a family up on one plan — everyone covered, everyone private — is one of the more heartwarming setups I do. I'll send the invites, help far-away relatives accept and install, and reassure everyone their files stay their own. $99 flat for a visit, or $49 on-screen, 30-day come-back-free.

Would you rather I just do this for you?

No shame in it — plenty of folks would rather hand it off, and that's what I'm here for. I'll come to your home, set it up right, and make sure it's working before I leave. Flat $99 per visit — no jargon, no upsell, and every visit is 30-day come-back-free.

Not a hardware job? I can often fix it remotely for $49 — a secure screen-share, up to 2 hours, that you watch the whole time and can end whenever (included free for $39/mo Support Plan members, and it counts toward the $99 if it turns out I need to come out).
