Open the gate without leaving the truck, hand a guest their own code, and know it's shut when you're away. How phone control, keypads, power and safety all fit together. Rather have a hand? My number is (330) 200-8042.
Running the Gate from Your Phone, at a Glance
A gate you can run from your phone turns a daily nuisance into a non-event. There are two pieces: the gate operator that moves the gate, and a phone-control add-on that lets you work it from anywhere. Add a keypad with guest codes and visitors let themselves in. The two things to settle first are power (wired or solar) and whether there's a signal at the gate. And a moving gate must have working safety sensors. This guide walks through it all. There's a printable 29-page version up top.
Common Questions
1 Can I open my gate from anywhere, or only when I'm home?
From anywhere — as long as both your phone and the gate have a signal. The gate needs internet or cell service out at its spot. Once it has that, you can open it from the truck or from clear across the country.
2 Do I have to replace my whole gate to run it from my phone?
Usually not. If your gate already opens by remote, adding phone control is often just a small add-on box and some setup on your existing operator. Always ask before assuming you need a brand-new gate.
3 Solar or wired power for a far gate?
Wired is steadiest and best for a busy gate or one in shade, but it means a trench and a licensed electrician. Solar skips the trench and works well for a gate that gets real sunlight and doesn't cycle hundreds of times a day.
4 What safety features does a powered gate need?
Obstruction sensors that stop and reverse the gate on contact, a safe closing speed, and an instant stop — these are not optional. A moving gate can pinch or crush, so keep children and pets well clear and never skip the safety setup.
5 How do I let a delivery driver in without giving out a key?
A keypad with its own guest code. The driver punches it in, the gate opens, and you can turn that one code off later without changing anybody else's — and some systems tell you which code was used.
6 Who should run the power to the gate?
A licensed electrician. Running household current out to a gate — and anything at the panel — is their job, not a do-it-yourself project. I plan it and coordinate the pro; I don't do licensed electrical work myself.
Would You Rather I Just Help?
A gate you can run from your phone is one of the projects folks thank me for most. I'll walk your gate with you, size it honestly, sort out power and signal, make sure the safety is right, and coordinate the electrician — with nothing to sell you. $99 flat for a visit, 30-day come-back-free.
Would you rather I just do this for you?
No shame in it — plenty of folks would rather hand it off, and that's what I'm here for. I'll come to your home, set it up right, and make sure it's working before I leave. Flat $99 per visit — no jargon, no upsell, and every visit is 30-day come-back-free.
Not a hardware job? I can often fix it remotely for $49 — a secure screen-share, up to 2 hours, that you watch the whole time and can end whenever (included free for $39/mo Support Plan members, and it counts toward the $99 if it turns out I need to come out).
