Filling a PDF Form on Screen, at a Glance

That PDF form from the doctor, bank, or government? You don't have to print it, fill it by hand, and scan it back. You can type right onto it and sign it using tools already on your computer — Edge on Windows, Preview on a Mac, or free Adobe Reader. Save the form to Documents first, click a blank to see if it's fillable (if not, use Fill & Sign), add a reusable signature, and Save As a new copy. Keep sensitive forms on your own computer, not a random online filler. This guide walks you through it, and there's a printable 29-page version up top.

Common Questions

1 Can I fill a PDF form without a printer?

Yes. Windows (Edge) and Mac (Preview) both let you type right onto a PDF and sign it, and free Adobe Reader does too. No printing, scanning, or buying anything.

2 How do I type on a form that has no boxes?

Use the 'Fill & Sign' tool (Windows/Adobe) or Mac Preview's text tool. Click where you want to write and type, then drag it to line up neatly on the printed lines.

3 How do I sign it without printing?

Create your signature once — draw it with the mouse or trackpad, capture it with your Mac's camera, or type it in a signature font — then click to place it on any form. Reuse it forever.

4 How do I keep the blank original?

After filling it in, use Save As (or 'Save a Copy') with a new name. You'll end up with both the blank form and your completed, signed version.

5 Do I need to buy any software?

No. Edge and Preview are built in and free, and Adobe Reader is a free download from adobe.com. You never need to pay to fill out a form.

6 Is it safe to use an online form filler?

For sensitive forms, no. Use your own computer's tools — an unknown website shouldn't receive your Social Security number or bank details. Send the finished form only to a trusted address.

Would you rather I just do this for you?

No shame in it — plenty of folks would rather hand it off, and that's what I'm here for. I'll come to your home, set it up right, and make sure it's working before I leave. Flat $99 per visit — no jargon, no upsell, and every visit is 30-day come-back-free.

Not a hardware job? I can often fix it remotely for $49 — a secure screen-share, up to 2 hours, that you watch the whole time and can end whenever (included free for $39/mo Support Plan members, and it counts toward the $99 if it turns out I need to come out).
