Signing In Safely, at a Glance

USDA business runs more and more through farmers.gov, and to use your account you now sign in through Login.gov — one secure government sign-in used across many agencies. To use a farmers.gov account you need three things: a USDA customer record, a Login.gov account, and your identity verified (recommended online through Login.gov). Reach the real site by typing farmers.gov yourself — the genuine address ends in .gov — and never pay a third party to make a free government account. This guide keeps you safe. There's a printable 29-page version up top.

Common Questions

1 What is Login.gov?

Login.gov is a single, secure sign-in run by the federal government and used across many agencies. Instead of a separate account for each one, you make one trusted sign-in — and USDA and farmers.gov now use it. Set it up once, and it opens farmers.gov and other federal services.

2 What do I need to use a farmers.gov account?

Three things: a USDA customer record, a Login.gov account, and your identity verified — the verification done online through Login.gov is the recommended way. If you're missing a piece, your local USDA office can help you get it.

3 How do I know I'm on the real site?

Type farmers.gov yourself into the address bar — never click a link in an email, text, or ad. The genuine address ends in .gov, which only real government bodies may use. A .com, a misspelling, or extra words is a warning sign — back out.

4 Does it cost anything to set up?

No. Creating a Login.gov account and a farmers.gov account is free, and so is the identity check. Anyone charging you to make the account, or promising to 'guarantee' a program for a fee, is running a scam.

5 Will anyone from USDA ask for my password or sign-in code?

Never. Your password and the sign-in code Login.gov texts you are yours alone. If anyone — by phone, text, or email — asks you to share them, it's a scam, every time. Hang up or delete it.

6 What if a screen confuses me?

Screens change as the sites are updated, so follow the steps on the screen as they appear. If a step genuinely stumps you, call your local USDA Service Center or FSA office — or call me for the technology side.

Would You Rather I Just Help?

Government websites fluster plenty of good people, and there's no shame in it. I'll sit with you, get you safely to the real site, help you set up the Login.gov sign-in and the identity check, pick a strong password, and make sure you can spot a scam a mile off. I'm a tech helper, not a USDA official — for official and legal questions I'll point you to the right people. $99 flat for a visit, or $49 remote, 30-day come-back-free.

Would you rather I just do this for you?

No shame in it — plenty of folks would rather hand it off, and that's what I'm here for. I'll come to your home, set it up right, and make sure it's working before I leave. Flat $99 per visit — no jargon, no upsell, and every visit is 30-day come-back-free.

Not a hardware job? I can often fix it remotely for $49 — a secure screen-share, up to 2 hours, that you watch the whole time and can end whenever (included free for $39/mo Support Plan members, and it counts toward the $99 if it turns out I need to come out).
