Troubleshooting, at a Glance

Sooner or later you'll think your solar looks low — and usually it's just the weather or the season. This guide helps you tell a normal dip (or a mere reporting glitch — a blank app is often lost internet, not lost power) from a real problem, and shows the safe, ground-level checks: the weather, the app, your internet, and a clearly labeled breaker you can reset once. Anything on the roof or inside the equipment is a professional's job — never climb or open a box. There's a printable 29-page version up top.

Common Questions

1 My solar production dropped — is something wrong?

Compare to a similar past period, not a sunny day. If it's winter, cloudy, or snowy, a dip is normal. A real issue looks like a clear, lasting drop on good days, or a full year well under estimate — then call your installer.

2 The monitoring app shows no data. Did my system fail?

Usually not — a blank app most often means lost internet, while your panels keep working. Try a router restart; if reporting doesn't return, call your installer. Your production was likely fine all along.

3 Can I fix a solar problem myself?

Only the safe basics: checking the weather and app, restarting your router, or resetting a clearly labeled solar breaker once. Anything on the roof or inside the equipment is strictly for a licensed pro — never climb or open a box.

4 The inverter has a red light — what do I do?

Note the exact light or error code and check your monitoring, then call your installer with those details — they can often diagnose over the phone. Don't open the inverter; there's dangerous voltage inside.

5 Why is my production so low in winter?

Short days, a low sun, gray skies, and snow — all normal for Ohio winter and already in your estimate. Judge by the whole year, where summer's surplus balances winter's lean months. The first winter isn't a breakdown.

6 What if I smell burning or see damage?

Treat that as urgent — keep away, don't touch anything, and call a professional right away, or 911 if there's any sign of fire. Low production is a phone-call issue; burning smells, sparks, or damage are different.
