1 Why does my power wait a few seconds before coming back?

On purpose. The switch waits to confirm the outage is real, then lets the generator start and steady before taking on your home. That brief pause is normal and healthy.

2 Is the delay a sign something's wrong?

No — a few-second pause is the system working correctly. A very long delay or no transfer at all is different; see our troubleshooting guide.

3 Can I make the switch-over instant?

A standby system restores power after a brief gap by design. For something that can't blink — a computer or medical device — a small battery backup (UPS) bridges the pause.

4 Why does it wait so long to switch back to the utility?

That's the retransfer delay. Power often flickers as it's restored, so the system waits to be sure the grid is truly steady before switching you back.

5 Why does the generator run after my power is back?

That's the cooldown — it runs briefly with no load so it cools evenly before shutting off, which is easier on the engine over the years.

6 How long are the pauses exactly?

It depends on your system, and your installer sets them within the manufacturer's limits. The pattern — brief at the start, patient on return — matters more than exact seconds.
